MI-LAB: Mechatronics and Industry Laboratory
Background:
Mechatronic system is an integrated system consisting of mechanical, electronic and electrical parts. Nowadays, mechatronic system is widely applied in various industries. An obvious example is a robotic arm in assembling factory. For people, who involve in analysis, design, synthesis or development of a mechatronic system, they must have a broad range of knowledge in mechanics, electrics, electronics as well as computer control. In order to gain required knowledge for developing a mechatronic system, one must typically study in an area of engineering. The required knowledge/information usually distributes in branches of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer engineering. Therefore, it is plausible to believe that number of persons, who are expert in mechatronic systems, is limited.
A fast growing of Thai industry urgently requires mechatronic specialists. At the same time, mechatronics, which is a relatively new area, has also quickly evolved. Due to these facts, learning of new technologies is as important as broadening of the knowledge in this field. For a prompt response of the expected and unexpected changes, we must collaborate, exchange knowledge and do ourselves develop new concepts for a good tracing of the advancement in modern mechatronics.
According to above reasons, we have established a research unit named mechatronics and industry laboratory (MI-LAB) at Faculty of Engineering, Naresuan university. This research unit is for performing a collaborative learning of advance knowledge in the field of engineering, for inducing a knowledge exchange among members, and for developing a scientific researches, which might bring benefits to industry, society, and country. In addition, we expect to collect and transfer advanced knowledge in order to educate newcomers, who would like to gain up-to-dated information in the field of mechatronics for fast evolving technology.
